Gentle Spirit Yoga was created to offer individuals with a personal history of trauma a space to practice gentle movement and meditation in a supportive environment.

MY MISSION

Gentle Spirit Yoga, LLC provides the Trauma-Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga to individuals, small groups, and community agencies with the goal of offering hope, support, and inclusivity for all who come through the door.

MEET THE FACILITATOR:


Shawn

Shawn Archer (she/her) is a certified RYT-500 yoga teacher, Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator, and founder of Gentle Spirit Yoga, LLC.  In addition, she is currently enrolled as a Clinical Extern at the International Institute of Yoga Therapy and will be certified as a Yoga Therapist in January 2025.

Shawn has a Master of Arts in Leadership and Counseling and a Master of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies.  She has 20 years of experience providing counseling services, support groups for survivors of abuse, and educational workshops for the community. 

She is dedicated to guiding people on their healing journey and compassionately assisting them in exploring the healing aspects of yoga movement while incorporating mindfulness, breathwork, and body awareness into each session.

About Trauma-Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga

 

Each session will incorporate choice-based yoga movement and breathwork, inviting participants to connect with their bodies through movement in a calm predictable environment. 

TCTSY is the first yoga-based empirically validated, clinical intervention for complex trauma.

Individuals do not have to be flexible

No yoga experience is needed.

No special yoga clothes are needed. 

This practice has no hands-on assists.

Individuals can choose to practice sitting in a chair or on a yoga mat.  

Lights remain on throughout practice.

Trauma-Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga is designed to be a complementary treatment to therapy.

Participants are encouraged to have an individual therapist to fully process their experience.

Group Sessions

Did you know statistics indicate up to 70% of individuals have experienced at least 1 traumatic event in their life? 

Gentle Spirit Yoga is available to provide on-site TCTSY classes for organizations, shelters, and yoga studios.

Group classes can be designed for those exposed to secondary trauma including EMTs, teachers, therapists, direct, hospital staff, etc.

Mala Beads and Meditation Workshop

Mala beads are a string of 108 beads used for meditation. The beads are typically arranged in a specific pattern, and they are often used to count the number of repetitions of a mantra or prayer. Mala beads can be made from a variety of materials, including seeds, wood, gemstones, and crystals.

In this class, you will handcraft and create a custom mala that will serve as your personal meditation tool and can be used as a reminder of your intentions. The benefits include increased awareness, improved focus, and reduced stress.

If interested, class options may also include the history of malas and prayer beads, as well as the Reiki of everyone’s beads.  Class time varies between 2-3 hours.

This workshop has been adjusted for yoga studios, counseling agencies, individuals, and small group parties.
